Spring Schedule, Info Major… Stat minor?

So I am 95.8% sure I’m going to be an info major, pending my acceptance into the program. I’m gonna take a bunch of info classes next quarter and cse 373, all of which are major required. I have talked to Mariko (the advisor for the info department) and it sounds like I’m squared away. Here is what will most likely be my spring schedule: http://xijio.com/files/sched_spring2006.html.

In other news I would only need 15 more credits to become a stat minor:

NO Statistics Minor Requirement: Statistics Core - 1) STAT 394 Needs: 1 course - 2) STAT 341 and 342 Needs: 2 courses - 3) STAT 421 (preferred) or 423 Needs: 1 course

I like statistics and it seems like I wouldn’t have much trouble getting a Stat minor so I might just try and do that :)

My GPA

Right now I have a 3.01 I just figured out that if I could drop my Physics grades and my first math 125 and my math 308 grades that I would have a deans list GPA. The funny thing is that none o those classes matter for my major :(

Here is the totals from myuw unofficial transcript:
285.8 / 95 3.01

Here are the calculations for gradepoints of the classes I’d drop:
5 * 2.6 = 13 Physics 121
5 * 2.2 = 11 Physics 122
5 * 2.7 = 13.5 Physics 123
5 * 2.0 = 10.0 Math 125
3 * 1.2 = 3.6 Math 308

Here is the new total GPA:
234.7 / 67 - 3.50

Haha tricked you…

So there were no meaningful posts in the month of January… Oh well nothing happened that month (okay that’s a lie). Tons of stuff. The first weekend I went to canada on a whim which was fun and pretty much every weekend since then has been devoted to KA and husky basketball. I’m sooooooo busy this quarter with school, church stuff and KA.

We had initiation last saturday and it was the best one I’ve ever seen. Afterwards we had our iparty and it was pretty good except for that one of my friends got pretty sick so Tyler and I spent most o the night taking care of her. I’m glad to have Erik as a brother, he’s a really cool guy. This week we are focussing on rush and recruitment so I’m pretty busy every night with rush events and what not.

I’m doing really well in school. So far I think I’m above a 3.8 in all of my classes which is pretty good for this point in the quarter. I have 100% in econ (and some bonus stuff on top of that), I’m way above the mean in stat and I’m well in info. Info is bitch though. That isn’t to say that I don’t like it. It is just a lot of work. In the last 48 hours i’ve written 5000 words for that class.

Monday I spent all day in the library working on the first assignment. It ended up being like 5 pages and I thought that I did an alright job. I had Tyler proof read it for me at 10:40, right before it was due (at 11:30) and after we both had proof read it I submitted it at 11:22. The teacher, Kevin Desouza, had it graded within 10 hours and had the distribution of grades online. There were 4 4.0’s, 1 3.9, 4 3.8’s, 2 3.7’s, 1 3.6 , 1 3.4, 3 3.2’s and 5 2.0’s. I ended up with the one 3.9 so I was happy about that. I’m glad Tyler helped me with that. I spent all of last night night writing up my midterm. He gave us the questions a while ago and said we’d have time to work on it in class. Boy am I glad I did it last night and didn’t try to get it done today because it took me 5 hours and we only had about one hour to work on it in class. I think I did a really good job on it and anticipate a 3.8 to 4.0 which would mean that I’m doing very well in my info class which makes me really happy because that is my intended major.

Last thing I wanna talk about is the fact that I taked to Mariko, the info advisor and she says I should be on track to graduate with an info degree which make me really happy! I could graduate at the end of next year but it would be really challenging and I’d have to petition the major so I think I’m going to wait and graduate at the end of my winter quarter my super sr year.

(sidenote: I’m typing on a university computer and the fucking shift key barely works, its starting to get to me :P)

I gotta go to class now though so I’m gonna bounce. Maybe I’ll update more in February than I did in January :)
