My w810i is aging, I’ve had it for 2 years now (since summer 2006). It has been a great phone (I love the 2mp camera with autofocus, the signal strength and the durability). Now there is a crack in the screen (still usuable just annoying) and it is just getting old and rusty. It still outperforms 90% of the phones people I see using everyday and I’m still attached to it but it is getting to be time to upgrade. Right now there are so many cool phones coming out that it is hard to decide which to latch on to. I’m out of my AT&T contract so I can pretty much move to any carrier and Microsoft gives me discounts on all of the big ones.
Here are the things I really want to have in my next phone:
- GPS
- Large touch screen
- Autofocus camera w/ flash (or led)
- Qwerty keyboard
- 3g + wifi
I’m leaning towards either the Xperia X1 or the HTC Touch Pro. Both will be available in Sept-Oct time frame and have very similar feature sets. Are there any other handsets I should check out? Again I am flexible on carrier and am mostly concerned with getting a quality phone that’ll last me a while.
Edit: Treo Pro is another possibility, although the screen is smaller and the keyboard is always exposed, no slider.
Edit 2: iPhone is out because:
- No keyboard
- No MMS
- Extremely expensive rate plan, no MS discount
- Crappy camera
- Lots of problems w/ current iPhone 3g’s

1)The keyboard is built into the screen (to make it simpler)
2) You can send pictures by email, just like I did to you last week. As long as you have email set up on the phone that is.
3) The rate plan isn't soo bad depending on which one you get
4) The camera isn't that bad (who cares about cell phone pics anyways? get a camera if you want good quality pics)
5) Yeah there are a lot of problems with 3G iPhones, but those will all be taken care of because let's face it, Apple has pretty good customer service and takes care of their users (besides charging them a lot).
But yeah, price is definitely an issue. In your words "it's just money"

2) but if someone sends you an MMS you never get it, my family sends mms pictures all the time but my dad is always excluded w/ his iphone
3) $115/mo spec'd to my needs before tax, crazy expensive
4) Why carry around two pieces of technology all the time? My w810i takes better pictures than the iphone and it was released years before, why is apple lagging here?
5) I thought you hated apple :-p
6) No laptop tethering. That is another big downer.
7) No flash player (and no plans) means half the web doesn't work right... annoying.
8) I can keep going...
It's just money is more relevant for short impulse things, not signing my life away for $115+/mo for the next 2 years!
