My w810i is aging, I’ve had it for 2 years now (since summer 2006). It has been a great phone (I love the 2mp camera with autofocus, the signal strength and the durability). Now there is a crack in the screen (still usuable just annoying) and it is just getting old and rusty. It still outperforms 90% of the phones people I see using everyday and I’m still attached to it but it is getting to be time to upgrade. Right now there are so many cool phones coming out that it is hard to decide which to latch on to. I’m out of my AT&T contract so I can pretty much move to any carrier and Microsoft gives me discounts on all of the big ones.
Here are the things I really want to have in my next phone:
- GPS
- Large touch screen
- Autofocus camera w/ flash (or led)
- Qwerty keyboard
- 3g + wifi
I’m leaning towards either the Xperia X1 or the HTC Touch Pro. Both will be available in Sept-Oct time frame and have very similar feature sets. Are there any other handsets I should check out? Again I am flexible on carrier and am mostly concerned with getting a quality phone that’ll last me a while.
Edit: Treo Pro is another possibility, although the screen is smaller and the keyboard is always exposed, no slider.
Edit 2: iPhone is out because:
- No keyboard
- No MMS
- Extremely expensive rate plan, no MS discount
- Crappy camera
- Lots of problems w/ current iPhone 3g’s
I have started using yelp to find restaurants and check stuff out and I think its really cool so I decided to create an account and start reviewing things myself. If you use yelp you should become my yelp friend
Check out my profile.
I need to calm down. Also, since I’m posting. Microsoft and NBC teamed up to stream the entire olympic games live in HD over the internet. Pretty damned cool if you ask me! nbcolympics.com/video/
Got a surprise in the mail yesterday. The package was from shirt.woot. I saw it a few weeks ago and I liked it but, I didn’t bite. Then to my surprise yesterday this wonderful item arrived in my mailbox!

Kendall apparently ordered it like 10 days ago and woot just takes forever to ship. I am wearing today and I really like it! The woot shirts are really comfy and it fits really well. I also can’t get over how funny it is :-p
I just got xijio.com working again (for the most part). For now, I’ve just got this thing updated to the latest version of wordpress (2.6 as of writing) and I’ve got a different (more standard) theme set up. I’ll probably do some customizations to the theme in the near future too to make it more personal.
If you’re reading this then I’m happy you kept me in your RSS reader! I’ll write a long post soon updating you all on my life.
I’d like to increase my online presence and have gone through phases of doing well at it and phases of doing poorly. I’m hoping that this present venture will be successful
I plan to get my photos on facebook/flickr and maybe even start updating twitter again (along w/ facebook). Most importantly I’m going to try to post here every once in a while
Testing out Ecto. So far I like what I see. I might have to try out MarsEdit too. Ecto is the better deal though at $17.99 vs MarsEdit at $29.95 so that may sway my decision. Any thoughts?
I had a tid bit of trouble in updating the Ruby on Rails install that comes with leopard to the latest version. I kept getting error messages like:
wls08188:~ mbjerke$ gem update rails

Turns out the solution isn’t too painful:
sudo gem update --system
This will update the ruby gems package (to 0.9.5 at the time of this writing).
Then “gem install rails” works as expected.
Hope this helps someone

Check out this cool little javascript game. How many html tags can you name in 5 minutes?

I mean, granted there are more than 30,000 messages in my UW inbox and UW backup folders combined and then everything from my xijio.com mailbox on the vl servers (another 8000-10000 messages). But seriously, it is like 1-2 messages per second. Crazy slow. I’ll be copying whereever I have an internet connection for a couple of days… Oh well.
